A listing of songs from the 1950s to the late 1960s that are still popular today and designed to help you identify the right version when purchasing in shops or on-line or listening to on youtube or other websites.
There are also guides to BANDS regarding songs that are already rock'n'roll favourites and suggestions of those that can be adapted to rock'n'roll and line dancing.
A guideline for bands who are interested in becoming SHOWBANDS or are on the lookout for more rock'n'pop songs that us baby boomers remember.
And heaps of trivia.

Pop (song): Middle of the road songs (not boppy music)
inc.
Poprock: Songs (Boppy - songs to dance to.
c/r: Country/ country rock
Inst: Instrumentals:
Nov: Novelty recordings.
Triv: (Bonus) odd pieces of Trivia about some songs or arttists.
Many songs were hits in Australia, The U.K. and The U.S.A during the 50s and sixties, but each country had a different artist recording the song, or one version was a hit in one country and the other version was the hit in the other two countries. But there was no real consistancy.
Occasionaly a U.S. or U.K.A. recording artist would score a hit in Australia without the song charting in their own country, or not even released there. (trivia).
Trying to obtain a recording of that song can often be difficult because the artist's greatest hits are usually based on their hits in their own country and are rarely featured on Australian charted hits. There are occasional exceptions, but they are very rare.
You can usually hear all versions on You-tube (not always, but most times), but that too can be disappointing if you selected the wrong artist, or for that matter, the wrong song.
But it would be even worse had you paid good money to either purchase the record or c.d. from a shop or a market miles away from where you lived, or had imported it from somewhere overseas.
The concept of this book (which is not fully completed at the time of writing), is to try and guide the reader to locate their favourite songs of the 50s and 60s to either purchase, or hear once again.
It is also designed for younger musicians and musical fans to hear some of the older material available to them.
The book's layout is as simple as I can make it without doubling the size of the book. And that includes listing some unique reference details that may jog memories when they are unsure of the song's title or artist.
The idea is that if you are uncertain if it the song or the artist, but it sounds like it may be, then you simply type it into You-tube and listen to it. If it is not, You-tube often offers alternative versions of the song on the right hand side of he screen. You have a starting point to relive a memory and it won't take more than few minutes to test out the alternatives.
But, if you haven't used You-tube before, you are sitting in front of one of the biggest time-wasters in history if you haven't got time to waste. It's not the search for your song that takes your time - it's just that You-tube offers more magical memory chasers than any library in the world.
It is a fantastic place to get lost in, but be warned ... uncontolled and undisciplined it will whisk you away forever if you don't take charge.
There is no way possible for me to guide you clearly into recognisng every song listed, but I have done what I could wherever possible.
As an extra bonus I have added trivia inforamtion about some songs and artists, mainly to clear my mind of rubbish I have been carrying around for years. Not guaranteed to all be true, but I believed the (deejay) source , or newspaper clipping, I heard or read it from at the time ... and have never had reasons to doubt its authencity,
If you buy the book when it becomes available, I thank you and I sincerely hope you enjoy it.
